2013 in Review

2013 has been a year for the books. I think it might have even been my favorite year yet. Corey and I are hosting a New Year's Eve party tonight in our new home to celebrate the past year and welcome the next. 2014 has big shoes to fill.

January
Corey and I rang in the new year with dinner at our favorite Cuban restaurant and drinks with friends.

February
Corey and I celebrated Valentine's Day with dinner at The Dining Room at Anthony David's, which had been on our Hoboken restaurant list for a long time.

We started to discuss moving away from the city to somewhere a little more suburban. At the time we thought it would be Morristown, New Jersey.

March
I visited the Museum of Natural History. It was on my NYC bucket list for some time and was totally amazing.
Riley turned three years old.

April
I opened my Teachers Pay Teachers store, which has been a great creative outlet for me - and also provided me with a little extra money to spend on shoes.

Corey and I escaped the cold New Jersey weather to visit his parents in Naples, Florida.

May

Corey was offered a new job in Charlotte and he decided to accept it. We said good by to some dear friends in Hoboken and our first home together.

I said goodbye to my sweet third graders and with a heavy heart resigned my position for the coming year.

June
We moved to Charlotte. Riley was not so sure about that whole idea at first.

I was offered a new job to teach 5th grade gifted and talented.
I attended my first Charlotte Social blogger meet-up at NoDa Brewery.

July
We hosted a group of friends in our new apartment for the 4th of July and spent some time out on the boat.

I attended the first annual Charlotte Blogger Cookout at Classic Annie's home and met some wonderful ladies in person.

We experienced our first Restaurant Week in Charlotte.
We decided to purchase our new home!

August
Corey and I celebrated our first anniversary. I can't believe we've been married over a year!

I started my new job.

September
We spent many weekends watching Clemson football with friends.

October
Life with Elizabeth became A Carolina Mrs.

We headed to Greenville for Fall for Greenville's food festival and a fun weekend with friends.

Corey's mom and I headed to our builder's design center to choose all the finishings for our new home.

We celebrated Corey's 29th birthday.

November
We celebrated my 26th birthday and Corey surprised me with the Burberry jacket I've been dying for for almost three winters.
He also sent me flowers at school to make my birthday a little extra special.

We hosted our first Thanksgiving.

December
I attended what felt like a million Christmas parties (including the Charlotte Social ornament exchange) and was so thankful for time spent with friends.

We closed on our new home!

And then immediately traveled to New Jersey for Christmas.

And then back to Charlotte again to prepare to host a New Year's Eve party tonight.

I can't wait to see what 2014 holds. Happy New Year's, friends!

New Year's Party: Modcloth Style

New Year's Party: Modcloth Style

New Year's Party: Modcloth Style by carolinamrs featuring a teal purse

Happy Monday, friends! I cannot even believe New Year's Eve is tomorrow. What a year 2013 has been! We'll be doing a little recap around these parts soon but first I'd like to share a cute NYE outfit for those of you still looking for a little inspiration. We're hosting a New Year's Eve party at our new home, which is finally unpacked, tomorrow and I am just dying to wear my new dress. Modcloth invited me to participate in a fun little contest on Polyvore featuring their Committee Celebration Dress. This is such a fun take on the LBD and I am so in love with the teal belt. This particular dress comes in both standard and plus sizes and is such a classic cut that you could wear it over and over again. I tried to go with kind of a "vintage glam" look. I think this outfit would be so fun for a New Year's Eve party tomorrow night - or any other celebration this winter as well. You can find all the items in this look from Modcloth or by clicking below.

Closing Day!

Today, Corey and I (and Riley, of course) close on our new home. We are beyond excited! It has been many months since we first started the building process and it has been so fun to watch the house come together piece by piece. I am so looking forward to making this house a home with our little family. Of course, I can't wait to decorate it. I've already gotten a little bit of a head start but there will be posts to come on that soon enough.

Riley is most excited for his new backyard. Big thanks to our friend, Jeff, for taking these sweet pictures.

Lately (and giveaway winner!)

You may have noticed I disappeared after Thanksgiving. If you have any teacher friends, I'm sure they'll agree that this time of the year is just totally completely crazy. Add on the whole buying a house and moving just three days before we leave to go on vacation and planning a New Year's Eve party for right after we get back....well you get the idea!

Since the last time I posted, Corey and I hosted Thanksgiving in our apartment. We made all kinds of delciousness. I tried a new macaroni and cheese recipe that I am now obsessed with. It will be my go-to any time I make this - which luckily is only a couple times a year since it has a ton of heavy cream and cheese.

The turkey was also successful but grossed me out no less than ten times. Luckily my mom came over to help me with this. I wanted turkey lessons so I could make a turkey like the one I always grew up with. I am not so sure I want to be responsible for the turkey anymore, though. It was delicious but the whole preparing it process was just no fun.

My sweet grandmother, who is about to turn 94, was in attendance. Three generations.

After we finished hosting for Thanksgiving dinner, we listed our living room furniture on Craigslist and were able to sell it. This is great since we'd already purchased new furniture but also terrible in that we have no couch. What a sad, sad living room. I'll be watching TV in bed until further notice.

Our house is really coming together. Our final walk through is today and then we close next Monday. Here's a couple pictures from last week when we stopped by to meet with a company about building our patio.
I love this little hallway.

The tile fiasco has been fixed! Above are the tiles we chose. Loving this much better.

We have appliances! Right now our apartment refrigerator is miniature. It is the smallest refrigerator I have every seen. I cannot even tell you how excited I am to start using this one.

Last but not leave, the winner of my $50 Blue Nile jewelry giftcard giveaway was Stafanie of the House Spouse. Thank you to all who participated!

Blue Nile Holiday favorites + a $50 giveaway!

Happy Sunday, lovelies. I hope you've enjoyed a nice long weekend with family and are getting all prepped for Cyber Monday tomorrow. That is how I prefer to do my holiday shopping. You will absolutely never see me fighting crowds at the mall on Black Friday, when I can have the perfect gifts delivered to my doorstep hassell-free a few days later.

If you missed yesterday's post, I have partnered with Blue Nile for a little Holiday promotion. Blue Nile is the country's largest online jeweler and they have some beautiful pieces that would make perfect Christmas gifts this year. Here a few of my favorites:

Blue Nile has launched Leave Nothing to Chance, an application on their website that analyzes your (or a friend's) personality and style to help you choose the perfect Holiday gifts. This app creates an infographic and makes gift recommendations from Blue Nile's website. I found these to be pretty spot on when trying it out myself. The goal of this application is to eliminate that element of "chance" when purchasing jewelry for someone else and to ensure that the gift you give will be something the recipient with absolutely love. You can even share your results through social media to give those who might be purchasing for you a little hint.  Everyone who gives the application a try is entered to win a three carat diamond tennis bracelet, valued at $4,500. Could you imagine opening that up on Christmas morning?

Blue Nile is also giving away a $50 online giftcard to one very special A Carolina Mrs. reader. Use the rafflecopter widgit below to enter between now and midnight on Friday, December 6.
