Sandy hits Hoboken

Hi lovelies! Corey, Riley, and I are ok. We are at Corey's parents' house, which is 30 minutes outside of the city. After I posted yesterday morning, the news compared Hoboken to New Orleans because of our flood potential and how much below sea level the city lies. Corey and I looked at each other and said, "Let's go." So we did.

We don't know anything about our apartment. Our neighborhood is badly flooded and the city is completely inaccessible so I have no idea when we will be able to go home. There are power lines down in the flood waters, which are a mixture of sewage and water from the rain and river so there is a mandatory curfew preventing us from going home. Plus the only way to get to our apartment would be by boat.

I will update when I know more as well as when I have info on any relief efforts. Please keep the people of Hoboken in your thoughts as many live in basement and first floor apartments and will have no home to return to. Also, once all garages were full, residents were advised of streets to park their cars on that were above sea level yet all of these flooded.

We have no power here and lots of trees and limbs down but are fortunate that there is no flooding where we are staying. Yet no Internet either - I'm relying on my iPhone. Here are some pictures all via twitter of Hoboken.

Weekend (& Sandy)

Happy Monday lovies! Corey and I are home from work today and Riley is hiding under a blanket with just his head out and barking at the wind. Sandy is giving me and the the 3rd graders a four day weekend but she's also being a major bish to the Hoboken area.

We had a great weekend this past weekend celebrating Corey's birthday and Halloween. On Friday, I hurried home from work and baked Corey a mini aluminum can cake. Usually I bake a full cake for his birthday but since we were going out to dinner, I knew we would be having dessert at the restaurant and wouldn't want endless sweets around the house. I didn't snap a picture because as soon as I put the last bit of icing on the cake, he was on his way upstairs. Then, we went to a rodizio steakhouse. I enjoyed filet and lobster tail and didn't try the rodizio but Corey and his sister did and loved it. Everything was delicious and such a fun experience.

On Saturday, we took a walk and stopped by the farmer's market in Hoboken. That evening, we got ready to celebrate Halloween. Riley had already celebrated on Wednesday with some of his Cavalier friends at a doggie Halloween party.
Riley was a sock monkey. As you may remember, those are his favorite toys.

After the costumes came off, he played with all his best friends.

Corey and I stopped by two Halloween parties hosted by some of our friends and then met up with a few more friends at a local bar. We wore our costumes from last year since we didn't get to wear them because of the snow.
I was a German beer maid.

And that is my devoted husband, the pimp.

I made pumpkin bread last week. It was amazing! I even made a cinnamon nutmeg icing to drizzle on top. I'll definitely be making it one more time this fall and will have to post the recipe. SO GOOD!

I'm currently sitting in our living room watching the trees in Hoboken blow sideways. Its looking pretty gross outside. Corey and I are stocked up on food, including things we can eat if we have no power. Sandy is being a major bish to the Hoboken area by her plans to arrive at high tide on a full moon and run straight into a cold front. Basement and ground floor apartments have been evacuated and those by the water, but right now our building is fine. Our car is parked on the second floor of the garage and we're on the seventh floor so we are not too concerned about the expected flooding. We're a little nervous about getting stuck for days though! Our area of Hoboken is very prone to flooding even when it rains heavily for a couple hours, not to mention a couple days. We're considering leaving for Corey's parents house in an hour or two but are not sure things will be any better there as they have more trees and are in a more suburban area so are not as high priority if power is lost.

I took this screen shot while following the updates on Hoboken's twitter last night. Before any of the rain came, the train station was flooded just from the storm surge's effect on the tide.

Happy Monday, girls. Hopefully the weather is better where you are. And if you're in Sandy's path, stay safe!

Happy Birthday, Corey!

Today is my sweet husband's 28th birthday. Happy birthday, Corey!
I can't wait to celebrate with him and family tonight and over the weekend. I'm a lucky girl to have this man as my husband and love him more and more everyday.

This week has been super busy and my regular schedule has been off with extra meetings and a workshop so I promise to get back in the swing of things around here next week. In the meantime, I've got some celebrating to do. Happy Friday, lovelies!

Thoughts for Tuesday

Happy Tuesday lovies! How was everyone's weekend? I know I normally do a Hitched post on Tuesdays but I was too tired and lazy last night to upload photos. So we'll pick up with that next week.

Corey and I had a fun and relaxing weekend this past weekend. On Friday we went out for happy hour then dinner with some friends. I love happy hours. I also love that I got to wear my new chevron top with my J.Crew {factory} bubble necklace. I really love how fun this blouse is, yet I can also wear it to work.
{Blouse: Modcloth Skinnies: J.Crew Flats: Tory Burch Necklace: J.Crew}

On Saturday, we went to New Hope, Pennsylvania. It is right across the New Jersey border on the Delaware River and is the cutest town. Corey and I went with his parents and sister and had lunch at a waterfront restaurant, enjoyed spiked apple cider, then took a look around some of the town's artsy shops. The weather was nice and the leaves were gorgeous!

Halloween is kind of a big deal in Hoboken. There will be a bar crawl and all the brownstones are decorated with lights, spider webs, and the occasional ghoul. I really love all the decorations on the old brownstones.

I'm "decorated" for fall/Halloween. Usually I love to decorate for all holidays, but I've been feeling a little bah-humbug about decorating lately. I think its just because its such a pain to un-decorate such a small space. All my decorations have to be taken down then put in Corey's parent's garage until next year. I do, however, have the most darling wreath on my door. I purchased it before our fall party in September from blooger, Southern Charm's Etsy store. The candy corn are my favorite. Love!

This sweet man has a birthday this week. Corey turns 28 on Friday. He got his present early this year but I might have a trick or two up my sleeve for the actual day.

And that's all for now, girls. Have a fabulous day! xo

Friday Confessions

It's Friday, girls!! And you know I like to start my weekend off with a few confessions. Have something of your own to confess? Link up with Leslie!

I confess that I'm obsessed with the pumpkin coffee at Dunkin Donuts. Definitely going to purchasing the k-cups so I can make it at home. Yum!

I confess that these cute booties joined my closet this week. When Miss Pink Lou Lou shared these on twitter and informed us that there was a buy one get one half off sale going on at Tar-jay. I'd been wanting to try the bootie trend without investing much money. Enter Target. I adore these booties and can't believe they hail from Target.

I confess that I've been spending way too much time after work chatting and have been leaving later than normal. I just love my new job so much.

I confess that my dog is addicted to the dry cleaner's on the ground floor of our building. I've taken Riley with me a time or two to pick up our clothes and the man who works there has given him a treat. Now, every single morning when I take him out to potty, Riley pulls right to the door of the dry cleaner.

I confess that I had my haircut this week. Don't you love that fresh haircut feeling? My appointment was at 9:45 pm and I was greeted with a glass of wine, followed up by a neck and scalp massage. I was almost asleep by the time we got to the actual haircut.

I confess that the weekend is here and I'm excited. This week really flew by so its hard to believe Friday is already here but I'm excited to sleep in and relax. Definitely not setting my alarm clock tomorrow!

What are your plans for the weekend ahead?

Monday Monday

Happy Monday lovelies! How was everyone's weekend? Corey and I had a great time!

On Friday we headed to central Jersey to celebrate Corey's grandmother's birthday with the family. The food was delicious! On our way down, we caught this picture of this crazy looking sky at sunset.

Saturday we took a long walk then headed to Oktoberfest at Bear Mountain in upstate New York. It was such a fun time and so pretty. We enjoyed great German beer, a giant pretzel, and gorgeous scenery.

Sunday was spent relaxing and getting things in order for the week. I cleaned, did laundry, did my nails, prepped a crockpot dinner for tonight, and made skinny(-ier) chicken parm for dinner. This was delicious btw and husband approved. I always feel a lot better when I am productive for the week ahead.

In other randomness, here are some recent OOTD's.
