Bridal Talk Tuesday - Rehearsal Dinner Inspiration

Hello lovelies! Corey and I have been throwing around ideas for our rehearsal dinner and we are thinking we would like to have an upscale barbecue. We think this would be a fun, laid back way for our out of town family to mingle and for us to all catch up before the big day!

Life with Elizabeth

Burlap, mason jars, and corn hole scream southern barbecue and I love all of them. While we aren't positive this is the direction we're going to go yet, I think it would be a great time!

My Memories Suite Giveaway!

Happy Monday ladies! I have a fabulous little Monday surprise for all of you. Liz from My Memories, a digital scrapbooking software, is teaming up with Life with Elizabeth to offer a fun giveaway that I know you will love.

I first used My Memories after winning a giveaway from the first version software from Preppy Wife, Preppy Life. I fell in love with the software because its super easy to use and allows me to create all kinds of fun projects. The possibilities are seriously endless! My Memories is rated #1 by Amazon and Top Ten reviews and is compatible with bot PC and Mac. My Memories was sweet enough to give me a copy of their software to review as well as one to give away to one of you lucky readers.

The software is a $39.95 value and while you can get started with the included kits, additional kits are very reasonably priced - with most only a few dollars.

To try out the software I created a card that I could include in a welcome bag for our guests at the wedding. I used the Champagne Romance scrapbooking kit.

I also tried my hand at making a cutesy page for a digital scrapbook. It was super easy, which is what I love best about this software.

If you've ever hopped over to my teaching blog, Lipstick, Lattes, and Lesson Plans, and taken a look at my blog design - I created it entirely using My Memories. It was a breeze to create a background, sidebars, header, and button.

Now, you have the chance to win your very own copy of this fabulous digital scrapbooking software. Here are the details:

The giveaway is open to all followers of Life with Elizabeth blog.
The giveaway opens now and remain open for seven days, until Midnight on April 2, 2012.
You have four chances to win:

1.) Mandatory: Visit mymemories.com and leave me a comment with the name of your favorite scrapbooking kit. Being in complete wedding mode, mine is Champagne Romance
2.) Tell me an idea for a project you would use My Memories for.
3.) Blog about this giveaway - you must leave me the URL link in a comment.
4.) Grab the giveaway button on my sidebar and display it in your sidebar. Leave your blog URL in a comment.

Each entry must be left in a separate comment. Good luck girls!

Also, thank all of you who entered my Mary Kay giveaway for my first blogerversary last week. The winner will be announced Wednesday morning! Cross your fingers!

Happy Birthday, Blog!

Today Life with Elizabeth turns one year old! One year ago, I published my very first post. I had an idea that my blog would be a way for me to share my favorite fashion finds and swap make up and hair tips with other bloggers. My main goal was to record the exciting changes in my life, as I prepared to leave my job and my home state and relocate to Hoboken, New Jersey to be closer to my fiance (who was actually still my "boyfriend" at the time.)

What an exciting year it has been since I started my blog. You have supported me through an engagement and celebrated with me weekly through my Bridal Talk Tuesday posts as Corey and I plan our wedding. While that was certainly the highlight of my year, I think what is most special to me about this "blog year" is how you supported me not in exciting moments such as these, but how you offered words of encouragement to me during more difficult times.

I have received the sweetest and most supportive comments about my move. From a suburb of Charlotte, just over the state line into South Carolina, moving to the metro New York City area was somewhat of a culture shock. I left all of my best friends, the city I felt was home, my family, and a school district that was a dream to work for. Being away from my girlfriends was the most difficult part of moving, especially as many of them stay very busy with graduate and law school. I have formed so many friendships through my blog and I feel so very fortunate to have you all.

Soon after I moved to Hoboken, I started a job that I absolutely hated. I was miserable for at least 75% of every workday. When I resigned after only a few short weeks to pursue my career in teaching (which is where I've always belonged), I received so many positive comments and celebrations from many of you when I was hired to teach Kindergarten just a week later.

I am so happy that I began my blog and that I've found so many of yours as many of you are some of the most kind and sincere women I know. I'm looking forward to starting my second year of blogging and hopefully there will be many more. Cheers to one year - grab a glass of your favorite Skinnygirl and celebrate with me!

In the spirit of celebrations, I am offering the first of two exciting giveaways this week. I love the color line from Mary Kay. I use the CompactPro filled with my favorite eyeshadows and blushes. I love that I can fill it with the colors of my choice and then replace my most frequently used colors when I run out.

I also carry the Compact Mini in my purse so that I can touch up at any time. It holds three eyeshadows and a blush or bronzer. Underneath the colors is a small compartment that holds travel sized brushes. This thing is seriously a lifesaver for afterwork events or touching up late at night. I don't go anywhere without it.
Because I love my compact mini so much, I am offering one as a giveaway to celebrate my first blogoversary. It will be filled with three neutral eyeshadows and a blush, a $45.50 value. The giveaway will run until midnight on Sunday, March 25. You have three chances to enter:
1. Mandatory: Visit my Mary Kay website and tell me which product you'd most like to try in a comment.
2. Display my blog button on your homepage. Let me know you've done this in a comment and leave your link.
3. Mention this giveaway in a blog post. Be sure to leave me a link to your post and comment letting me know you've done this.

Good luck! And stay tuned for a fun sponsored giveaway later in the week! It will be super exciting and you definitely don't want to miss it!

Bridal Talk Tuesday - Cookie and Candy Buffets

Life with Elizabeth

One wedding trend I am loving are cookie and dessert bars at weddings. I do also like candy bars but I'm not a huge candy person, so I have a bigger appreciation for a dessert or cookie buffet. Have you been to a wedding that has one of these? I think it would be so fun but don't know if we'll end up doing it or not.

What are your thoughts on this trend? Which do you prefer - cookie, candy, or general dessert?

145 days and counting and my oh my am I getting busy!!!!

Weekend in Review

Ladies...the weekends just go by too quickly! Are we in agreement? I really need three days.

Thursday we celebrated Riley's second birthday. He had a puppy cake from a local "barkery," chicken breast for dinner, and a new sock monkey. He loves these but tears them up every couple months.

Friday night, Corey and I headed to Bowlmor Lanes located in Greenwich Village with some friends. I haven't been there before but it was such a good time. I'm a terrible bowler. Our group had unlimited drinks and appetizers for two hours and we took full advantage of this. By the end of the night, some of our friends were sliding down the lanes on their bellies! It was lots of fun - I can't believe I didn't take pictures.

Corey and I took a long walk on Saturday. We've been doing an eight mile walk one day a weekend. The weather was absolutely perfect and it finally really feels like spring. We grilled steak and vegetables for dinner and I made rosemary feta twice baked potatoes - a recipe I found on Pinterest. It was a delicious dinner at home, with ample amounts of a new French wine we are loving.

Corey's parents came to Hoboken for brunch yesterday. We haven't seen them in quite a while because they have been staying warm in Florida! They are back now and we enjoyed a great brunch on the Hoboken waterfront at a restaurant that lets you BYOB champagne then mixes it with fresh squeezed orange juice to make mimosas. We took a walk along the waterfront afterwards then Corey and I headed to look for new running shoes. He and I both need new pairs. Y'all...I'm wearing the pair I got my freshman year of college! (Not that they always got as much use as they do lately.) My shoes are literally falling apart. Corey found a great new pair but I am having the hardest time. I can't say I love the spider web look running (in my case I use that term loosely) have lately. I think I might try to make my own on NikeID. Has anyone used this?

We'll be celebrating my first blog-aversary later this week. Stay tuned for two fun giveaways! Happy Monday girls!

Riley is Two!

Happy Birthday Riley Thomas!

Two years ago, I was just returning from a spring break trip to the Bahamas when the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breeder called me to let me know that one of her girls had had puppies during the night. I was on the wait-list for a puppy (actually a girl in the blenheim color) as a graduation gift from my parents.

I hurried over the very next day and met Riley and his sister, who ended up becoming sick and having to be kept by the breeder as opposed to being sold. It was fate that Riley would be the newest addition to our family. Corey was very adamant about not getting a puppy but we weren't all that serious yet so Riley came home to live with me while Corey was out of town visiting with his parents.

The day Riley came home!

15 weeks

Six months!

Christmas morning pj's - "naughty and nice"

Happy 1st birthday Riley!

Happy birthday to the sweetest pup ever! We love him so much and he is pretty much perfect, aside from when he goes through the trash or eats our socks and underwear.

Bridal Talk Tuesday - THE dress is here!

Life with Elizabeth

Believe it or not, it was eight months ago that my Maid of Honor, Elizabeth, and I made the trip to Kleinfeld in search of the perfect wedding dress. I'd tried on at least thirty or forty dresses and hadn't found the one yet but I was pretty optimistic that Kleinfeld would have something - they are after all the largest wedding salon in the country.

I got the call on Saturday. My dress arrived at Kleinfeld. So exciting!!!!! I haven't really been thinking about the dress. I saw the sample again at Christmas when my mom and I chose my veil. I haven't second guessed my dress decision so I've been pretty patient.

Now, however, I am just dying to see it! The problem? My dress is currently being held at Kleinfeld. My first fitting is not until May. (The dress wasn't supposed to arrive until mid-April.) There is no point in moving the fitting up because I may lose more weight as it gets closer to the wedding - especially now that the weather is getting warmer and the end of the school year is getting closer.

Kleinfeld is shipping my dress to me in Hoboken because even though it is barely a mile from the salon, it is out of state and that is a big help with sales tax. My dress won't be shipped until about ten days before my fitting appointment because as you may know if you watch Say Yes to the Dress, you can't open the box when it arrives at your home! This voids the shipping insurance so you must bring the unopened box to your first fitting and open it there.

I have been a super patient girl but now I find my patience gone! I can't wait to open the box and try on my dress (not the sample) for the first time. I am beyond excited!

151 days until the wedding - in case you were curious!
