2012 in Review

Happy {almost} 2013 friends! Before I get to dancing on the table tomorrow, I'd like to recap some of the year's highlights.

January

Corey and I rung in the New Year by having dinner at Chez Jacqueline, an adorable French restaurant in Greenwich Village. Then, we headed to a party with the friends. It was my favorite New Year to date.

I got stabbed in the eye with a pencil at work. While memorable, this was certainly not the highlight of my year.
My sorority sister and maid of honor, Elizabeth, came into town so we got a group of girls together for sight seeing and touristy things in the city.

Corey and I went skiing in Vermont with a group of friends. It was my first time skiing in about ten years and I had the best time.

February

Corey and I celebrated Valentine's Day the weekend before. I cooked dinner for him on Friday and he took me out to a delicious tapas restaurant on Saturday. Then, he headed skiing with some friends later in the week and my cousin came to visit.
Our Save the Dates went out.

March

We celebrated St. Patricks day in pure Hoboken fashion - which is BIG and with a day full of drinking and parties.

Life with Elizabeth turned one year old! And my sweet Riley Thomas turned 2!

I took my first vBarre class and fell in love with this new workout class.

April

I went home to the Carolinas to do some wedding planning. I met with our planner, chose the florist, and Corey and I had our tasting and finalized the menu.

May

Corey, some friends, and I headed down to the Jersey Shore to celebrate Memorial Day. I got majorly sunburned but started getting a little pre-wedding color.

June

Corey and I traveled to Key West for his cousin's wedding.

My grandbig in my sorority hosted a bridal shower in Greenville, SC and I was able to go back for the weekend and spend some much needed time with my very best girlfriends. And see my dad for Father's Day.
Then, the very next weekend, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law hosted a beautiful bridal shower here in New Jersey.

July

I traveled home to South Carolina to finish up with wedding plans. My aunt and cousin hosted a kitchen shower in my hometown. It was good to be back in the town I grew up in.

I took my bridal portraits at the lovely Duke Mansion in Charlotte. The temperature dropped down to 98 degrees from the 103 and 104 it had been so I was able to take photos outside.
I met up with my best girlfriends in Charleston, SC for my bachelorette party. It was a great time and so, so special to me to have my favorite ladies all in one place. I even met on of my blog followers when we were walking down the street on our way to get mani/pedis.

I was hired for my new job and resigned my position at the innercity Charter school where I'd been teaching for the past year.

August

We got married!
Then, headed to Hawaii for our honeymoon.

September

I legally changed my name and then started my new job as a 3rd grade teacher.

Corey and I started to get settled into our newlywed life.
My sweet friend, Elizabeth, came to visit me and another sorority sister, Brittany, who lives in the city.

October

We celebrated Corey's 28th birthday.
Hurricane Sandy hit Hoboken, causing major destruction and leaving many of our neighbors homeless.

November

I celebrated my 25th birthday.
My mom came to visit for Thanksgiving and then we went to see Jersey Boys on Broadway.

December

I caught the respiratory flu, which left me sick for two weeks. Yuck!
My kiddos had a great Holiday season and Corey and I celebrated a wonderful first married Christmas and got ready to ring in another year together.

Happy 2013! Grab a glass of bubbly and make it a great one! xo

Confessional Friday

Hi friends!

I hope everyone is having a great Friday today as you prepare for the New Year. You know how I love joining in with Leslie for some Friday confessions so lets get right to it.

I confess...that it is 11 am and I'm still sitting on the couch in my pajamas drinking my cup of coffee. Winter break is magical.

I confess...that I threw a temper tantrum this morning when Corey was leaving for a weekend snowboarding trip because I didn't want to share my husband with his friends this weekend. {Spoiled.}

I confess...that I've been contemplating changing the name of my blog. I've never really been happy with it but don't know what I want to change it to. Or if it would just be too confusing to all you followers to change it. Thoughts?

I confess...that next year I am banning Holiday sweets from my household. I have snacked on way too many pieces of chocolate over the past week. And guess what? I haven't made it to a single barre class.

I confess...that I will NEVER, EVER, EVER miss getting my flu shot again. Lesson learned. This was the first year in over a decade that I didn't get it and of course I got the flu (type A - respiratory kind) and it majorly sucked. PSA - if you're a procrastinator like me and haven't gotten yours yet, get to that immediately.

I confess...that I just ordered Mary Kay's Lash and Brow Building Serem to help plump up my lashes. If I like it, I'm thinking I might give one away on the blog.

I confess...that I have a gold sparkly dress for New Years. Love this Holiday! What will you be wearing?

Happy Friday friends!

Holiday Recap!

Hi there lovelies! I hope your Holiday was fabulous. Corey and I stayed in New Jersey this year as our travel budget was a little maxed out from my wedding planning trips and our honeymoon to Hawaii. As expected, I was a little bummed not to see my parents but had a great time with my family here.

I finished up the 2012 year with my sweet 3rd graders. They said their goodbyes to the Elf on the Shelf. One of my sweet girls drew a portrait of Jingles so we would always remember him.
Gosh, I love kid artwork. It brings a smile to my face. :) I've had the flu for the past two weeks so I've been pretty much useless. I did make it to Santacon in the city before I realized I had the flu. If you're ever in the city around the second week of December, put on a Santa costume and do this. It was loads of fun. Basically, you bring some canned goods to donate to those who need them this time of year and in exchange you can participate in a bar crawl around the city with thousands of other drunk Santas. Quite comical.

I painted my nails Essie's jag-u-are for the Holidays. This is the best holiday color in my opinion. Pretty red with just a hint of sparkle.

On Christmas Eve, we headed down to Corey's aunt's house for a big Christmas Eve dinner. All Corey's aunts, uncles, and cousins were there and it was a great time. His cousin's long time boyfriend popped the question in front of all 30 guests and she said yes.
While we were at dinner, it started pouring snow to prepare for my first white Christmas ever. It stuck on the ground long enough to last through the next morning then melted away during the day on Christmas.

We headed back to Corey's parents' house and curled up on the couch to watch some Christmas movies before bed. Sweet Riley was so worn out from the Christmas festivities that he could barely keep his eyes open.
Santa came and brought Riley a new bone and rope toy shaped like a gingerbread man. He looks a little possessed in this photo but really he was just excited to play tug-of-war with a new toy.
Corey's parents spoiled us with some golf accessories and a new winter coat for him and a beautiful scarf and vase for me and a gift certificate for a mani/pedi. Corey and I each got each other one small gift this year because we are in the process of making a really big purchase that hasn't been mentioned on the blog yet. ;)

I got him a new North Face snowboarding jacket for his trip to Colorado in February and he got me the Mint. I can't wait to use my little robot later today! I have a feeling it will be a life saver with our furry little dog.

We spent Christmas day watching movies with my in-laws and eating a delicious Christmas dinner of prime rib and lobster tails. Yum!

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays from our family to yours! Corey, Riley, and I are having a great Holiday with my in-laws. Recaps to come!

I'll be back into the swing of things later this week - I've been recovering from the respiratory flu this week and haven't even picked up my computer. Have a great Holiday!

Misc. Monday

Hi pretty girls! How was your weekend? We had a great time. I finally felt like I got a little caught up on rest and was feeling much more myself this weekend than I have been recently.

On Friday, Corey and I tried La Isla, a cuban restaurant in Hoboken. We've heard great things about this place but have never gotten around to trying it. Were we ever missing out! Everything was delicious. Major bonus was that this is a BYOB restaurant so we picked up some Mad Elf Ale. At 11% abv, this got our evening off to a great start. ;) We met up with a few friends after dinner.
Saturday was a super busy morning, which always seems to be the case lately. We were out and about until early afternoon. This was my errand running OOTD.
We headed into the city for dinner at Abe and Arthurs, a steakhouse in the meatpacking district. We first went to this steakhouse as guests of a wholesaler in Corey's company and loved it. As with so many restaurants in meatpacking, it had a great atmosphere and was delicious but also came with a hefty price tag. When we saw a deal show up on Gilt city recently, we snagged it. Delicious, as usual.
It was really nice to spend some time in Manhattan. Since Sandy we haven't been going into the city as much since the train is still closed while being repaired. We took the bus in, which was actually pretty easy for the part of the city we were going to.

I picked up this little gem at Francesca's recently. Oh my word, girls, this stuff is the best. It is an exfoliating scrub and smells heavenly. Its also very thick and gritty, which leaves my hands, feet, and elbows feeling silky smooth after I use it. Perfect for this cold weather! Bonus points - it comes in an adorable package.
This was my work OOTD last week when I hadn't done laundry. What to wear when you have nothing clean? A black jersey dress and leopard ballet flats.
I am recently obsessed with Nashville. I have a number of other shows that I am loving this fall. I've actually gotten Corey hooked on Scandal so we can watch that together but Nashville has recently become my guilty pleasure. I DVR it so I can watch multiple episodes when he is out of the apartment, like when he went to the Giants game yesterday.

On a similar note, I watched way too much TV while I was cleaning our apartment yesterday. I turned on an episode of Property Brothers and then four hours later, my living room and kitchen were clean but I was still hooked on HGTV.

We are still doing the Elf on the Shelf in my classroom. Check out Lipstick, Lattes, and Lesson Plans to see what he's been up to.

 Have a great Monday, girls!

Weekend!

Happy Tuesday girls! And happy December! How in the world did it get to be December?!

Corey and I had a great weekend. It was fun, but cold! To combat the cold (and the fact that I was exhausted), I wore a colorful outfit to work for casual Friday. My South Carolina print Lilly murfee and a pair of coral Tory's.
Then Friday evening, we went to a happy hour with friends and then to the Dave Matthews Band concert. We had awesome seats on the sixth row.
We had a really busy Saturday running some errands and getting some Christmas shopping done. When we finally made it home, Corey made some delicious chili for dinner and we plopped ourselves on the couch with a bottle of wine. I made some buttery sugar cookies from scratch for us to nibble on for dessert while we watched a movie.
Riley gave us his most convincing face to try to sweet talk his way into getting a cookie.
A package arrived at school yesterday from the North Pole containing my class's Elf on the Shelf. My kids were incredibly excited and named him Jingles. He's already been up to some mischief by changing the date on the whiteboard to December 25.
Time really just seems to be flying for us. We have both been extra busy in and out of work lately. I feel like I missed the entire month of November. And with public transit from Hoboken still being down (aside from the bus, which I HATE), going into the city for fun outings and delicious dinners-out is proving to be really difficult lately. This is a major bummer for me because I love trying new restaurants in NYC. On the plus side, we have been saving a ton of money by not eating out so much. Guess what I've been spending it on???
In all fairness, only two pairs are brand new. But nevertheless, I have a Tory Burch problem. Don't be surprised if my husband confiscates my debit card.

And that is all. Have a great day lovelies!

Friday Confessions

Happy Friday ladies! How was your week? With long days because of parent-teacher conferences, mine just flew by. I really don't know how it got to be Friday already, but I sure am glad! ;)

Here are my confessions...

I confess that I have had about a million cups of coffee this week. While that might be a slight exaggeration, I have had about three cups a day, so I've been pretty wired. I picked up a new porcelain travel mug after I dropped my favorite one and broke it. Loving that these are dishwasher safe since I usually take a cup of coffee in the car with me on my commute.

I confess that I'm really loving being able to wear my favorite clothes to work and that they come home intact. This was something I totally didn't have at work last year. Here are some work OOTD's from this week.
Sweater dress: Lilly Pulitzer, Boots: Nine West via DSW
This was my cozy neutrals outfit. Sweater and pants: LOFT, wedges: Tory Burch
Peplum sweater: LOFT, pants: old, old, old from Express, flats: Tory Burch

I confess that I was a little giddy about the snow we had this week. It snowed about four and a half inches in the town where I work on Wednesday and only a little dusting in Hoboken. It was a half day of school for fall conferences so I loved watching the kids sledding down the hill outside our building all afternoon.

I confess that my dog seems to think he is a human. I got in the shower yesterday morning and when I got out, I saw this. RIDICULOUS. Clearly, he's pretty spoiled.

I confess that this is on my Christmas list. I saw the commercial during the Thanksgiving holidays and have been dying for this little sweeping and mopping robot ever since. Working woman's dream!

I confess that I am obsessed with the Sensationail at-home gel mani system. Have your tried this yet? If not, run- don't walk, to get it. You will love.

I confess that I'm looking forward to a dinner out with my husband tonight, who I feel like I haven't seen since last week!

What are your confessions today?

Lately (in photos)

Happy Monday girls! I hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving holiday and weekend and that you're week is off to a great start. I have been neglecting my blog lately as lots has been going on and I've been super busy. My apologies. I've been reading a lot of yours, though, while I've been sitting in gridlocked traffic on my way too and from work, though, even though I haven't been leaving as many comments as usual. Here's a few iPhone pics to show you what we've been up to lately.

I told you I've been working super hard. I walked out of school last Friday to see my car was the only one left in the parking lot. Plus side? I got so much done in my classroom and didn't need to bring anything home for the weekend.
My first gingerbread latte of the season. I love those Starbucks red cups.

Corey had these gorgeous flowers delivered on my birthday. Daisies and roses are my favorites. What a sweet hubby!

At least we know there won't be any mold in our building after the hurricane because I came home last week to find the lobby of our building was starting to be torn out. Kind of an eyesore for the time being, but I am so thankful because it smelled really gross after sitting under water during the hurricane.

Speaking of Hurricane Sandy and its impact on Hoboken, Riley ate an acorn on the sidewalk that was contaminated. He eats pretty much everything he can get his mouth on and he'd swallowed it before I could grab it. He has been one sick little puppy but is feeling much better now and even enjoyed a little Turkey on Thanksgiving.

My mom was in town for Thanksgiving. We had a great time and I'm so happy I was able to spend some time with her. We had dinners at my favorite restaurants, went on a couple excursions, and saw the musical Jersey Boys on Broadway. It was amazing and I would highly recommend it if you're in New York anytime soon.

And of course, there were a couple birthday mojitos. Yum!

Have a great day lovelies!
